Epoxy Floor Considerations

Epoxy Floor Considerations

Epoxy Floors are common place in commercial facilities.  Industrial facilities also generally like to finish walls and floors with resin floor systems because they are extremely practical and durable.  The cost associated with installation and material is far less than other covering products.  Within the last 10 years, the options for colors and finishes has become almost as versatile as paint.  With these new colors and aggregate blends they can be made to be quite attractive.  They are easy to clean and maintain and have an overall lower maintenance cost than other flooring and finish products.

Saving Time on Interior Painting Projects

Saving Time on Interior Painting Projects

One of the secrets that all painting contractors know whether they are residential painting contractors or commercial paint contractors is that time spent in preparation is usually greater than the time to actually applying paint. Painting contractors know that this can include: a. moving furniture, b. protecting rugs with tarps, c. taping off trim, d. masking windows, e. sanding walls and or trim, f. caulking and g. removing nails and/or pictures from walls.  This is in addition to sanding and filing all hole and cracks.  And all this must be done before the first drop of paint is ever applied.

One of the attractive aspects to contract painting is the opportunity to constantly be changing and adapting to new environments. Every potential job presents its own set of challenges. Is it a home, business or apartment that needs paint? While home painting can vary, the size and scope of apartment painting can be extremely varied.

Why Wait? It may cost more later.

It is foolish to wait to repaint a structure until you see damage to the siding or stucco.   While most property owners repaint for appearance, it's important to remember that paint's primary value is in its function of waterproofing, protecting and preserving a structure.  By the time many call a painting contractor, there is amble evidence of damage and extra repair that needs to be done before painting.

So why should I hire a licensed painting contractor?

So why should I hire a licensed painting contractor?

The reality is that most painting contractors are neither rich nor able to take much time off ?  What keeps them busy and hustling is the reality that there are lots of unlicensed, uninsured painters in the market place that don’t even carry workers compensation for their workers.  This means that it is easier for some to bid a job for a much lower price and still have the same profit margin as the conscientious, legal contractor.  An unlicensed contractor may even employ illegal workers, pay them cash and then avoid all federal and state taxes.  When someone asks to be paid in cash, we all know what that means.

Painting and Protection for Coastal Property and "the beach house"

The weather is always mild and the sea breeze can be relaxing and mesmerizing. As I drive the coast line there is always something under construction.  I'm immediately drawn to the sunset and afternoon warmth of the sand.  But, as a corrosion specialist I'm always seeing deterioration and salt and sun damage.  How could I relax with all this work surrounding me!  Maybe that's why I spend the weekends in the Desert.

Considering Hiring a Professional Painter, but maybe you will do it yourself?

Considering Hiring a Professional Painter, but maybe you will do it yourself?

Taking on the task of an interior or exterior painting project can be a difficult task.  It really depends on the size of the project and your experience.  Typically the project starts with researching the proper materials and equipment. This takes time out of your busy schedule and multiple trips to the home improvement store for last minute supplies will add up.  The physical labor alone can turn what looked like a weekend project into a week long ordeal.  The real thing that gets most people motivated to attempt it on their own, are the infomercials on TV.

LEED

LEED

LEED is finally catching on across the country.  In Los Angeles the future of coatings and painting was shaped by 50 VOC or less, but the rest of the country is catching up.  LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.  LEED certification is a third party verification program created by the US Green building Council.  It uses a credit system to categorize the sustainability of a home or building.  Tax write offs, lower operating costs, stewardship and a healthier space are all reasons that the program has grown over the last few years.
